__________
__Tasunke
__
I am not afraid to keep on living,
I am not afraid to walk this world alone.

Five small rocks fell down the mountainside, bouncing against it's rocky slope and gaining speed with each second. They reached the bottom, and each bounced a few more times before stopping completely, all five ending up in a different place in the grass, although all three had started and nearly the same place. From above, a paint horse watched all this with a smirk, for he was the cause of the commotion among the little rocks.

The smirk fell as the rocks stopped moving, and then he began to move down the mountainside again, unsure of why he had stopped in the first place, or even why he had gone up the side of Little Norr. Every horse in Trae knew it was impossible, or at least anyone that had tried had never come back. If a horse could shrug, Tasunke would have, but instead he was satisfied with a roll of the eyes, which thus ended his not-so-adventurous trip up ten feet of Little Norr.

As a raven flew above him and cawed loudly, Tas suddenly spoke out in a scorn-filled voice, "...By choice, a nomad." He was quoting his father, it was the last thing Tas remembered the old stallion saying before they had taken Tasunke to their camp, or whatever it was they called it, and given him a new name and a completely new life. His father had been speaking of the bird that had flown above, and answering the question Tas had asked. He had asked his father why the bird never took up nest in a tree, like most birds did. His father had merely responded by saying, "He is, by choice, a nomad." And left it at that. Soon after, the humans came and captured him, his father, and his mother. His parents were old and didn't survive long, leaving Tas alone with the humans wild horses so desperately fear.

For a long time Tas had refused to think of his parents, and when he unwillingly did, he would snort and stomp on the ground, telling himself he had no reason to bring up the past, because none of it matterred anymore. But now he thought back to the last words his father spoke to him, realizing it precisely described him. Tasunke had escaped the humans and their tent-like homes, and then chosen not to join a herd, or even lead one. He had chosen to be a nomad, a wanderer. He would stay in one place for any amount of time and then he would leave again, at which point he would find another place where he would be welcome to hang out in the valley's socializing lands until he got bored of the horses there.

It wasn't much of a life, but it was better than the boring life of a herd member or leader. It was the same thing all the time with them, and even if he could move the herd around, he would still be limited. No, this life was better. Much better.

He was, by choice, a nomad.

Shadow Dancer

Never judge a book by its cover

Small delicate hooves placed carefully among the rocky surface, the creature making them move glaring at the ground. It was none other than an equine, and to be specific a gray mare. It was easy to tell she was quite the looker and she knew it too. Her pelt consisted that of sleek gray and her muzzle and legs a bit darker. As for her mane, it was a deep gray and transformed to a cream color towards the back. Same thing went for her tail besides the fact she had more ivory there. The way the female walked showed she possessed eloquence and grace, her black hooves drumming over the rocks and hips swaying in an almost alluring way.

Amber colored eyes looked up, the sight of the rocky slope aggravating. The mare swore under her breath and couldn't help but wonder how the hell she got all the way over to this pile of pebbles. Even though she knew well the stones didn't have ears, she still cursed them. Now one might wonder why she chose to keep going even when she hated it and it was anything but her cup of tea? Basically, this girl never gave up and held that strive and determination to make it all the way up and show all those other foolish equines nothing could bring her down. With the new thoughts of victory, the unpleasant smug looks wiped off and was replaced with a satisfying smirk.

To make it clear, this mare was called Shadow Dancer. Shadow is the only nickname to mare will accept and anything else you'll pay. She may seem like the goodie tooshoes lovey dovey type mare, but once you approach her that statement will soon parish. Shadow was raised in a dark herd and will always remain dark. It is a clear fact she's a s.lut and a mercilessly killer and no alliance or herd could hold her back from that. When it comes to toying and teasing the stallions this mare has never failed. If Shadow wants something she'll get it no matter what it takes and when their is bloodshed involved she's usually the one causing it. Despite the battles and the harsh words that were directed towards her, it was great to be a dark mare. Shadow loved her lifestyle and if anyone has a problem with it they can say it to her face.

With a sudden jolt, the clashing of rocks and hooves came to a mis balance and the gray mare went down. More curse words swarmed through her mouth and a small trickle of blood ran down her left foreleg. Getting up swiftly, Shadow prevailed forward. Then, the scent of a stallion drifted to her outstretched nostrils and all the commotion went to a stop. With a wide smirk, the female let out her deathly call and waited to be answered. No, her whinny wasn't an indentation or a simple call to company her. It was a demand.

He had watched with a smirk as this mare, this 'Shadow Dancer' (although he wasn't aware of the name), attempted to make her way up (or was it down?) the mountain of Little Norr, just as he had moments previous. Except that his version of going down hadn't involved so much... falling. and cursing. That one, too.

Then she seemed to notice him. It hadn't taken her long enough, anyway. As her loud call rang out in the morning air, Tas knew what she wanted. She wanted him to go to her. Haha. Nice joke. Tas answered to no horse, male or female. Especially female. So his ownly response? To turn his head in her direction and glare at her. She was going to have to come to him.

Tas wasn't all that 'dark' of horse, if you really thought about it. He was indifferent and didn't care and hated to be bothered. Mares? Who needed them, although they did, at times, produce fine foals. Not that Tas himself had any experience in this, but he payed attention. Sometimes. Of course, if the large paint horse got angry, one would want to stay away. But other than that, he could have passed fine as a neutral. And the truth is, most of the time he took advantage of that. Most Neutral and Light horses avoided the darks, and didn't want to hang around with one. So occaisonally he would pretend he was neutral, and they'd accept him for a few weeks before he choose to move along again. Tas had no strong ties to the darks, or no guilt for not sticking to the ways of a dark horse. Whatever. He didn't care, really.

And so, although he was relatively sure this grey mare, who was actually rather pretty to look at, was a dark horse, Tas decided he would pretend to be neutral if she asked. It isn't often that a nomad like this one gets a chance to have a little fun, even if 'fun' isn't exactly how another might define this situation. But, oh, don't worry, Tas was going to have plenty of fun. (And this would be why he wasn't neutral.)

"Now, c'mon, miss. You dun' have to be so rude about it."

Shadow peered up at the stallion, her dark brown eyes glaring at him as she gave an aggressive snort. Who the hell did he think he was? A king? But even a king would answer to her and for Shadow, this treatment was a first and she hated it. This mare was used to being admired and adored. The kind stallions fall head over hooves for but never get so much as a second glance from her. That's what she was used to, thats what she liked, and thats what she wanted.

Slinging her gray head, her eyes rolled slightly as she quickly gave notice she was not going anywhere. Her small black hooves were now cemented into the hard stones, the only movement given from her now was the rhythmic movement her sides made as she breathed and the small stream of blood that trickled down her foreleg. The mare's head was tilted slightly, her deep amber eyes looking right into the stallions without any sign of a break. Starring at him, Shadow slowly let her words slip, her soft yet dangerous tone chiming.

Give me a reason why I shouldn't be rude?

With that remark, the mare stayed put and help her hooves firm in the mountain. Later she would climb up to the top, but for now she needed to show this stag she too would not take a step forward.

'Give me a reason why I shouldn't be rude?'

So she was one of those types. The ones that thought they could be rude all the time just because they were dark and no one would argue it. Well, she hadn't met Tas yet. He had no patience for it. "Tell you what, I'll do better. I'll give you two." He paused her, smirking at his own statement for no reason other than that he could, "One, more horses will give you the time of day if you're nice to them. Two, I don't think you want a hoof-shaped tatoo." So much for the acting neutral thing. Threatening to kick her probably wasn't the best way to keep that cover. But whatever, he didn't really care.

He smirked again, finally taking a chance to study her. She was a pretty fae, that was for sure. If he had a herd, he would have claimed her right away. But with no herd, Tas had nothing to gain or lose. She looked like the type to lead a herd, anyway. She probably would prefer his listening to her than her listening to him. But whatever it was, she was still a pretty thing to look at.

He took two steps forward, moving toward her like her original call had asked. "Now, now. If we could only just play nice like all the other good girls and boys..." He put on his best mockery voice and face, imitating something he had heard from some neutral horse in a herd he had once stayed with. "But who wants to play nice, anyway?" he thought, almost saying it out loud, but changing his mind. No, he'd wait for a response now.

The white mare looked at the stallion with the same smirk, her amber eyes not giving off the emotions she felt. It was easy for her to hide what she felt, not like she needed any real hiding, but it was good to keep her emotions under control. Looking at him, she figured he was the type who didn't really give in to the whole dark thing but couldn't pass off as neutral so just stuck here. Well thats a shame because whatever alliance Shadow was she was going to be rude and speak her mind.

Oh two reasons? How nice.

She spat, her small body failing to move besides her lips which released her toxic venom. Listening to his comment, she couldn't help but give him an unusual look. Did he really think she cared if he gave her a hoof shaped tattoo? And what make him think he would be able to get to her anyways?

I don't need for horses to give me the time of day. I don't give a -insert bad word here- if horses want to come to me or not, they'll just miss their chance. And what makes you so confident you can even touch me?

She hissed, her voice still producing her venom but her tone teasing and hard to tell whether she was being funny, sarcastic, or serious. It didn't matter to her though, he could think whatever he wanted. He should just remind himself that mares can do just as much harm as any other stallion. Laughing at his last response, Shadow knew she would have some interesting conversations with this one.

Oh hun, I don't play nice.

;; It was shame that Tas had 'blown his chances' with the mare. His reputation was already ruined in this valley. How sad. He would have to move on soon, and be rid of all this... ugh. He didn't even have a word for it. All he knew was that unless things changed in the next, say, hour, he would be leaving this place for good. Maybe.

"Mmm. I was under the impression I was doing a pretty mare like you a favor. Oops."

Sarcasm once again filled his voice. This was a new low for the stallion, really. Often his encounters with other beings consisted of him being seemingly sweet and innocent, rather than sarcastic and annoying. Whatever, though. If she got sick enough of him, at least he knew he could leave.

"Good to know, Miss."

He completely ignored her second comment, and took a few steps closer to her. He was a likable enough horse, really. The mare just need to get over herself.

Or at least, this is what Tas told himself.
